Sumter is approximately 44 miles east of downtown Columbia and home to Shaw Air Force Base. Centrally located in South Carolina so it is only a couple hours from the mountains or the beaches. Sumter also boasts the Sumter Gallery of Art, Swan Lake Iris Gardens, the Sumter County Museum and the Sumter Opera House.
